FUE Hair Transplants

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

A Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant refers to a hair harvesting technique whereby the hair follicles are extracted one at a time from the hair-bearing areas and transplanted into the non-hair-bearing areas of the scalp, beard, mustache and eyebrows The FUE procedure can be performed by using a motorized hand-held punch device or the Artas robotic arm. The hair-bearing areas used for follicular graft harvesting are also referred to as the donor areas. The donor area is located in the back of the head and hair follicles harvested from this area are usually immune to the miniaturizing effect of male hormones. Hair follicles can therefore, with the exception of a small percentage of patients, be transplanted without concerns of future hair loss.

The FUE hair transplant procedure is performed under local anesthesia and light sedation. The procedure does not call for sutures and does not leave a linear scar. The FUE procedure is very useful for clients who prefer to wear their hair very short.

During the hair transplant process, the harvested grafts are separated under magnification into groups of various sizes depending on the number of hairs in the follicular units. A follicular unit typically bears one, two or three hairs in their natural state. These follicular unit grafts are then strategically placed to create a soft and natural-looking frontal hairline. Care is taken to plant the follicular unit grafts in the correct direction and angle to mimic natural hair.

At De Haar Hair Restoration we follow strict quality control measures to help ensure graft survival during the transplant process. We utilize new cooling technology which ensures an optimal and stable environment for the grafts during the short time they spend outside of the scalp. Our clients may choose to use specialized biological concentrates during and after the hair transplant process. These concentrates enhance healing of the scalp and promote hair growth.
